District Meeting - State Convention - May 15, 2010
Ramada Stevens Point Hotel
The District Meeting held in conjunction with the State Convention at the Ramada in Stevens Point was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by PDG John Jenson with the Pledge of Allegiance. PDG Reverend Frye followed by leading the group in song and finished with the invocation.
Representatives of La Crosse spoke to the group encouraging support for La Crosse as the host city of the 2013 convention.
PID Phil Ingwell spoke about the resolutions on the ballot.
- • Resolution 1 would amend the bylaws, removing Section 2 which details the structure of the State Convention Committee and replacing it with provisions for a State Convention Host Committee. This allows individual clubs or districts to be responsible for the operational aspects of the convention, similar to what occurred before the change under which the convention now operates with a 10 member appointed committee representing all of the districts.
- • Resolution 2 would amend the constitution placing the selection of a site for the state convention in the hands of the State Convention Site Committee and not the State Convention Committee as is proposed to be abolished by Resolution 1.
- • Resolution 3 would authorize the Wisconsin Lions Foundation Board of Directors to spend in excess of $100,000 for repair of the Memorial Building at Camp.
Representatives of 7 Shawano area clubs sought support for having the State Bowling in Shawano in 2011.
Walt Althaus speaking as a WLF Director encouraged support for Resolution #3.
The minutes of the District meeting on May 16, 2010 were approved upon a motion by Gene Francis and second by Neil Winchell.
Cabinet Treasurer Lion Al Schultz reviewed key items on the income statement and balance sheet for both the Administration Fund and Activities Fund. It is expected that the district will run a slight loss for the year (approximately $1,000 to $1,500) which is better than the approved budgeted loss of about $4,400. Activities accounts were active throughout the year, within the historic income and expense range for each account. Overall the cumulative Activities Account balance is down about $7,000 from last year but still strong at over $50,000 in reserves. Upon motion by PDG Ron Sherman and second by PDG Walt Althaus, the treasurer's report was approved.
DG Rick Daluge reported on the state of District 27-D1. His comments included…
- • Membership currently sits at minus 3 for the district; still time to get to a positive number.
- • Thanked PDG John for the organization of the District Convention in Dubuque.
- • Asked for approval of Lion Bob Faliveno and LEHP Committee to solicit funds from district clubs to purchase equipment for testing adult glaucoma. Upon motion by Lion Jodi Burmester and second by John Dickson approval was granted.

- • Praised all of the cornea transporters for increased deliveries this year.
- • Noted that four Lions in our district are receiving awards at the convention: Presidential Award to PDG Ron Sherman, Leadership Awards to Lion Steve Knapp and VDG Neil Winchell, and Helmer Lecy Sight Service Award to Lion Dave Hineline.
- • All club visits except one (which is scheduled) are done.
- • Had International Certificates for Lions Dale Boness, Daryl Porter, John Thiesenhusen, and Ben August.

PDG John Jenson reported on the District Convention. Everything went quite smoothly and the hotel was excellent. Future cabinets need to communicate better on attendance for the cabinet meeting and associated meal. This discrepancy of reservations and actual attendees was significant this year.
At this time there was a ceremonial transfer of the PDG jacket from PDG John Jenson to DG Rick Daluge.
PDG Rob Sherman introduced International Director candidate and Past Council Chair, Mark Hintzmann and his wife Jean for some remarks relating to his ambition to become an International Director.
Lion Bill Eichelberg addressed the group on behalf of the bid by the Marriott Hotel to host the 2013 State Convention. The hotel has recently upgraded all 55,000 sq ft. of meeting space and 292 sleeping rooms. Middleton will grant $3,000 to Lions to help offset convention expenses.
DG Rick Daluge then introduced the incoming District Governor and his wife, Gene and Jean Francis.
PDG John Jenson auctioned off the gifts that had been presented to the District during the meeting. $90 was raised on four items for the District Emergency Fund.
