District Cabinet Meeting - Shullsburg - August 1, 2010
Wheel Inn
Meeting was called to order at 12:05 pm by District Governor Lion Gene Francis. Introductions were made. The pledge was recited followed by 1st VDG Neil Winchell leading the song America and giving the invocation. Lunched was served.
The meeting reconvened at 12:45pm.
Roll Call - An attendance sheet was passed during lunch and everyone was asked to initial it and correct any names or positions that each person is filling.
Introduction of Cabinet Members - PID Lion Phil Ingwell helped District Governor Lion Gene Francis induct the cabinet secretary treasurer, 1st and 2nd Vice District Governors, zone chairs and district committee chairs. The District Governor's banner was presented to District Governor Lion Gene Francis. The 1st Lady pin was presented to Lion Jean Francis. District Governor Lion Gene Francis presented a plaque to Immediate Past District Governor Lion Rick Daluge. All cabinet members introduces themselves and said which club they belong to.
We said thank you to the staff of Wheel Inn with a round of applause.
Lion Peter Cerniglia presented a very informative video about chronic kidney disease.
District Governor Lion Gene presented his report. He started by thanking those members who have taken a leadership role or agreed to serve on a committee. He passed on International President Sid Scruggs, III's theme of a Beacon of Hope. Each club is encouraged to do at least one service project this Lion year. Lion Gene presented his theme of a ray of hope for a brighter future. All clubs are challenged to add 2 new members during this Lion year.
Approval of minutes - A motion to approve the minutes from the last meeting was made by Lion Glen Hauge, and seconded by Lion Phil Ingwell. All were in favor and the motion was passed.
Financial report - The audited books for 2009 were presented to the new board on July 20, 2010. A motion to accept the audit report was made by Lion Peter Cerniglia and seconded by Lion Arlen Milestone. All were in favor and the motion was passed. Lions Al Schultz and Rick Daluge were commended for their dedication to keeping the financial records in order for the 2009 - 2010 Lion year. The budget for the 2010 - 2011 year was presented. A motion to approve the budget was made by Lion Phil Ingwell and seconded by Lion Rob Sherman. All were in favor and the budget was accepted.
Constitution and By-Laws - This was skipped for this meeting.
Hearing Conservation - Lion Denny Walker presented his report. Currently there has been 32 clubs donate to hearing. 13 hearing aids were approved, 13 applications denied and 2 are pending.
Wisconsin Lions Foundation - There will be an open house at the Lion Camp on September 18, 2010. Numbers of kids who attended camp this summer will be given at the next meeting.
District Convention - IPDG Lion Rick Daluge will be heading up the 2010 - 20111 district convention. It will be held the 2nd weekend of March at the Marriott in Middleton. Lion Rick will be asking people to help with the planning.
Leadership - PDG Lion Rob Sherman presented a list of upcoming events. The USA / Canada Forum will be September 23 - 25.in Milwaukee.
LEHP - Donations of $100 or more are requested for the purchase of 3 new cameras.
Youth Exchange - Lion Dave Peltier gave a report regarding the students that will be traveling abroad this year. We will have 5 students coming to the United States this year.
Eye Bank - There have to date been 30,085 eye surgeries. The crystal vision award was presented to Sue Sabin and Martha Malon. The Knight for Sight award was given to Lion Rick Daluge.
Leo Clubs - Mt Horeb will be starting a new Leo Club - More information will come later. Albany Lions Club is trying to start a Leo Club. Beloit Lions Club is trying to start a Leo Club. Bucky Bolin will be the new district chair for Leos.Vision Screening - Lion Dave Hineline reported that there has been trouble in getting vision screeners repaired. The district may need to look at purchasing some new photo screening machines.
Pin Sales - There was $910.00 received in pin sales for the 2009 - 2010 Lion year. 200 district pins have been ordered for the 2010 - 2011 Lion Year. There are currently 68 pins on hand. Several ideas were offered on how to reduce the number of pins that are ordered.
Club Communications - Upcoming club events were shared. Let's try to support each other's club events!!
A motion to adjoin was made by Lion Dick Schwedrsky and seconded by PDG Lion Walt Althaus. All were in favor and the meeting ended.
