District Cabinet Meeting - Albany - October 10, 2010
Albany Lions Clubhouse

The meeting was called to order at 12:09 pm by District Governor Lion Gene Francis.

1st VDG Neil Winchell led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a song and the invocation.

Lunch was served.

The meeting reconvened at 12:49 pm. An attendance sheet was passed around in lieu of an official roll call.

The PDG's were introduced and then the reports were started.

A motion to accept the minutes was made by Lion Dave Peltier and seconded by PDG Lion Walt Althaus. All were in favor and the motion was passed.

A motion to accept the treasurer's report was made by Lion Matt McCarville and seconded by Lion Jodi Burmester. All were in favor and the motion was passed.

District Governor's Report - The State Lions Office will be moving to the Lion's Camp at Rosholt on October 15, 2010. Mary Lee Wiza resigned as State Secretary. The new State Secretary is Kathy Gruna. The rent for the new state office will be $ 485.00 per month. The office email will be lionstat@scbglobal.net. The phone number is 715-677-4764.

Constitution and By-Laws - There have been no revisions on the policy manual. The by-laws are being revised to change some errors in language. There are no changes to the financial information at this time; just changes in procedures.

Long Range Planning Committee - There will be more information at the cabinet meeting in January 2011.

Wisconsin Lions Foundation - There were 1571 campers in attendance at the camp this summer. There were no major incidents or injuries reported. The spring open house went well however, the attendance was low. The fall 5K Fun run/Walk went well with about 40 people participating. There will be a work day at the camp on October 23, 2010. Deer hides can be donated again this year at the camp. They will be sold and the money used for various projects.

Lions Pride - No report was given. Lion Steve Knapp was in Arizona. $5.6 million has been received so far.

District Convention - Lion Rick Daluge has scheduled the first organizational meeting for the 2010 - 2011 district convention. The meeting will be held on Monday November 1, 2010 at the Marriott in Middleton. A motion to order a class A and B raffle license was made by Lion Jodi Burmester and seconded by PDG Lion Rob Sherman. All were in favor and the motion was passed. The date of the convention will be March 11-12, 2011. Our district will be hosting the state convention in 2013.

Diabetes - There will be a diabetes awareness workshop in New Glarus on October 23, 2010. It will run from 9:00am to noon at the Lutheran church. Contact Lion Dale Boness if you would like a diabetes speaker to visit your club meeting.

Hearing Conservation - There have been 2 applications for aid approved and 1 denied.

LEHP - We have ordered a new vision camera for the district. The cost was $4,070.00.

Leadership - There are documents on the district website to help with training leaders in your clubs. There are also free webinars that can be watched on the computer.

Youth Exchange - Last year there were 54 kids hosted. All 10 districts in Wisconsin took part in the program. The cost to send a hosted child to camp is $28.00 per day per kid. There is information on the youth exchange website about hosting a child. This youth exchange website has a link on the district website. The stipend for hosting a child is being changed from a set amount to a weekly amount. Children traveling abroad will be required to attend a lions club meeting in the country they are visiting.

Leader Dog - There was a referral for assistance in Monroe. The person who was going to receive the dog isn't ready for that step yet. Donations are starting to come in. Any amount will be appreciated.

Leo Report - A new Leo club has been started in Mt. Horeb. The Platteville Lions club is trying to set up a leadership conference for Leos. Waunakee is looking at setting up a Leo club. Albany and Beloit Turner are also trying to set up Leo Clubs. Presently there are 11 Leo Clubs.

CARE - There was no report due to Doc Esser not being in attendance.

LCIF - There has been $5.6 million donated in the U.S. and 1.8 million given in grants. Send donations for Melvin Jones Fellowships to Lion Doc Esser.

Alert / Disaster Relief - There was no report due to Lion Bill Teft not being in attendance.

Environmental - There was no report given due to Lion Diane Vendon not being in attendance.

USA / Canada Forum - The forum went very well this year. There were about 2500 people in attendance. The speeches and workshops were very well received.

Pins - The district pin is in the process of being approved. 2012 will end the series of cow pins. A motion to order 150 district pins was made by PDG Lion Glen Hauge and seconded by PDG Lion Walt Althaus. All were in favor and the motion was passed. If you have an idea for a new series, then please contact PDG Lion Jerry Sherwin. A second sample of the District Governor's pin has been received and they should be ready by the beginning of the year.

Thank you - 1st VDG Lion Neil Winchell wanted to say a special thank you to all of those Lions and Lioness that have stepped up to help in any way. We will continue to be strong as a district because of the many hours of service and dedication that have been put in by so many people.
