District Cabinet Meeting - Siver Dollar, Brodhead - October 16, 2011

The meeting was called to order by District Governor Lion Neil Winchell at 12:00 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by 2nd VDG Lion Bob Faliveno followed by song /prayer by PDG Lion Rick Daluge. Dinner was served by the staff of the Silver Dollar Saloon. DG Lion Neil thanked them for the great meal.

The minutes of the district meeting held at the state convention on May 21, 2011 were approved by a motion made by PID Lion Phil Ingwell, 2nd by PDG Lion Greg Johll. The minutes of the cabinet meeting held at Cuba City on August 8, 2011 were approved by a motion made by IPDG Lion Gene Francis, 2nd by 2nd VDG Lion Bob Faliveno. The treasurer's report was tabled by a motion made by PDG Glenn Hauge.

DG Lion Neil presented two awards from International to IPDG Lion Gene Francis and PID Lion Phil Ingwell. He presented his report that the district is down by 15 members and we need to do better in retention. A new campus club was organized at UW-Platteville with 21 members and two new Leo Clubs in Belmont and Southwestern are to be organized. He said that he wants to increase the number of women in Lions by 5% and that all clubs are to advertise their signature project.

First VDG Lion Daryl Porter reported on the trip to Leader Dog School and the US/Canadian Forum in Alaska (next year in Tampa Bay.) The speaker for the 2013 District Convention will be ID Lion Ted Reiver from Delaware. He talked about getting a new club in Clinton and a campus club at Madison Edgewood.

Lion Jodi Burmester reported that the club excellence process (CEP) will start up in Jan. and that the state leadership training is cancelled. We will rely on district programs and new on-line training.

Adult Eye Screening (LEHP)—VDG Lion Bob Faliveno reported on the Humphrey device and he continues to offer presentations and training. Health fairs are a good venue and 80% referral rate is great. He also reported on the meeting of the Council of Governors.

Candidate Search/Review Committee—PDG Lion John Jenson that one candidate has applied for the 2nd VDG position. Other candidates for district governor and vice DG are to get their paper work in soon.

Care/LCIF—Lion Doc Esser reported Dr. Gil is going to the Philippines on Nov. 1 and donations have been going well. Please send checks for LCIF with Melvin Jones designation to Lion Doc first.

Children's Vision Screening—Lion Dave Hineline reported on a new company that will offer a digital eye camera for $7,500. Waunakee Lions have ordered one and the district would like to do the same. Motion made by Lion Dave Hineline, 2nd by Lion Scott Grover to allow the district to order the digital camera from Plus Optics; carried. Lion Charlie Miehe read a good-story letter and reported that the non-digital cameras can be repaired in Platteville. He also has 7 cameras for sale for $750 apiece.

Convention Planning—PDG Lion John Jenson said to register early for the International Convention in Bussan, Korea. He announced that the state convention will be in Green Bay on May 17-19 in Green Bay.

Diabetes—Lion Dale Boness reported that stride walks will occur at the state and district level. Pedometers are available. Efforts to reach districts that do not have diabetes committees will be made.

District Convention—PDG Lion Rick Daluge reported that the first meeting will be on October 17 at the Mariott in Middleton starting at 6:00. He reminded clubs about putting ads in the convention booklet.

Environmental—Diane Venden's report reminded clubs to plant one tree per member and ask county extension agents for trees to plant.

Eye Bank—PDG Mike Tiber reported that the new director at the eye bank will be Art O'Neal from Memphis.

Hearing—Lion Dan Wilkinson reported a donation of $4 per member would be appreciated. Hearing aids may be sent to the Lions camp. Requests for hearing aids may be made to Lion Dan.

IT—Lion Scott Grover urged committees to send in reports so he can post them on the web site.

Leader Dog—Lion Bill Killian reported that Leader Dog offers Founders' Tribute for donations of $500.

Lions Affiliate—Lion Greg Clark reported that the Lioness District Meeting will be on Sat., Oct. 22.

Mission to Mexico—PDG Lion Glen Spring reported on the danger of driving into to Mexico. They are looking at flying into places like Rio Bravo or Vera Cruz in January.

Parliamentarian/ Protocol—PID Phil Ingwell reported on the International Convention in Korea next year and to register early. He put in a plug for the Lions Quest Program. International has 208 countries.

Peace Poster—DG Lion Neil reported that one poster has been turned in. Please send in posters asap.

Pins—PDG Lion Jerry Sherwin reported that an idea is needed for a new pin series. He presented the youth exchange chair Lion Ben August 250 surplus pins. Leo club advisors may request surplus pins.

Public Relations—Lion Jodi Burmester reported that clubs need to send in more articles/photos of Lions.

Research and Long Range Planning—PDG Lion Arlen Milestone reported input from survey of clubs is coming in slowly. The constitution and by-laws committee agreed to put on the ballot at the district convention that the 2-min, 3-min, 2-min rule on the time for speeches during the nomination process.

USA-Canada Forum—the report on the forum held in Alaska is on the district website.

Tail Twister—Lion Dennis Gullickson handed out the proceeds of the 50/50 raffle.

WLF—PDG Lion Walt Althaus reported on the camp, the retreat center is nearly booked up, there will be no open house next year instead members sign up for a visit. The camp is now smoke-free.

Youth Exchange—Lion Ben August said that Leos/ Lions' children may apply on-line for next summer.

DG Lion Neil charged us to believe and serve our fellow Lions. Be like the Bumble Bee. The meeting was adjourned by DG Lion Neil at 3:00 p.m.
