District Cabinet Meeting - Beloit - August 5, 2012

Introduction of New Cabinet Members:
DG Daryl introduced the seventeen (17) new members of the district cabinet, followed by the self-introduction of the remaining cabinet members & guests in attendance.
LUNCH: The meeting was paused for lunch at 12:25 PM
CABINET MEETING reconvened after lunch at 1:05 PM
INSTALLATION OF 2012-13 DISTRICT CABINET: PDG Rob Sherman installed:
1. VDG Bob Faliveno and VDG Randy Harrison
2. Secretary/Treasurer Jim Heidt
3. Zone Chairman, ten of the fifteen new zone chairmen were present.
4. District Committee Chairman
5. Immediate PDG Neil Winchell
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: of May 19, 2012 Cabinet Meeting @ State Convention, Green Bay; moved by Walt Althaus, second by Gene Francis, motion carried.
ACCEPT AUDIT REPORT 2011-12: Audit report accepted for files
APPROVE DIST. 27-D1 DEPOSITORY OF FUNDS FOR 2012-13: Moved by Neil Winchell, second by Gene Francis to approve Blackhawk Bank, Beloit, WI as Depository of Funds for the 2012-2013 District year - motion carried.
APPROVE 2012-13 DISTRICT BUDGET: Moved by PDG Glenn Hauge, second by PDG Jerry Sherwin to approve the proposed District budget as presented - motion carried.
COMMENTS:
1. DG Daryl Porter gave a short talk on Lion International President Madden's mission and goals with a main theme of Dedication + Preparation + Teamwork = Excellence. He also laid out his goals as DG for the coming year:
a. Add at least on campus Lions club.
b. Promote community projects with a non-Lions organization.
The State directory will be ready at the October meeting, but is available on-line at www.md27d1 User Name = wislions, Password = 2serve.
2. 1st VDG Bob Faliveno spoke on his goals and impressions as 1st VDG. He thanked all for this opportunity to serve. He has attended the Council of Governors meeting at Stevens Point, the UW Platteville student initiation, various officer installations, has made a Lions Camp visit, visited the Leader Dog School and attended the USA/Canada Form in Tampa, FL.
3. 2nd VDG Randy Harrison thanked all for his opportunity to serve. He is working on starting Lions Clubs in Clinton, Black Earth, and a Madison Latino Club. He also attended the District Council meeting at Stevens Point.
4. ZC Lion Al Johnson R2Z1 commented on a program to generate "grass root" information. He is working on an Activity Committee for the District with a first event in Dousman, WI on October 6 from 3-6 PM held jointly with D1 and A1. The proceeds will benefit the Wisconsin Lions Camp, Leader Dog and Wisconsin Eye Bank.

Children's Vision Screening, Eye Bank Mission to Mexico, Youth Exchange
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Adult Vision Screening: VDG Bob discussed the committee's convention program, report on file. He proposed a MOTION to purchase a second vision screening machine with funds in the District Vision Screening Account for $6,191.30; moved by ___________, second by Greg Heinen, motion carried.
Children's Vision Screening: Lion Dave Hineline, chairman Report on file. Lion Charlie Miehe spoke about the program and noted approximately 2,000 screenings were performed this year.
Alert Disaster Relief: Lion Bill Tefft noted that the committee now exists and is at work developing a plan.
CARE/LCIF: Lion Lyle (Doc) Esser noted that Dr. Gill sends greetings from the Philippines; he is in his 34 year going there. Doc Esser requested that checks be specifically marked as "Melvin Jones" or LCIF to help keep records straight. Report on file.
Constitution/Bylaws/Policy Manual: PDG Arlen Milestone provided the updated document with the revision date of March 10, 2012. Report on file.
Conventions:
1. District & Honors Banquet: Mar. 8 & 9, 2013 IPID Neil reported on ways to improve the conventions and asked for additional ideas.
2. State: May 17 to 19, 2013, PDG Rick Daluge called for volunteers to help. He also reported on the state golf outing. There was much discussion on the design of the state pin, MOTION to investigate a state pin design based on the Wisconsin state parks, moved by Peggy Daluge, second by PDG Neil Winchell, motion carried.
3. International, June 2012, Busan, Korea: IPDG Neil Winchell reported that 55,000 people had registered, the language was a big barrier and the food was OK. The next International convention will be July 5 to 9, 2013, Hamburg, Germany.
Diabetes: Lion Dale Boness submitted a report on the meeting held August 9 at Lions Camp,they completed the multiple district focus group and showed the newly produced DVD. They sent KEEP, Kidney Foundation a check for $500. Report on file.
GLT: PDG Rob Sherman reported that:
1. CEP Club Excellence plan for success is ready and he will be talking to clubs.
2. The regional leadership institute will be held two days in October in Stevens Point.
3. The Flat Louie competition will be starting in the District.
GMT: 2nd VDG Randy Harrison gave an update on MD27D1 Extension and DG Daryl Porter's goals:
1. Grow District membership by 100.
2. Add one traditional Lions Club.
3. Add one campus Lions Club.
4. Add two Leo Clubs.
Information Technology: Lion Scott Grover asked members to send him information for the website. He also addressed complaints that the PU101 forms were really slow, International is working on the problem.4
Leader Dog: Lion Bill Kilian reported that donations were down last year, but that the Wisconsin District was 4th in total donations at approximately $145,000, report on file.
LEBW: PDG Michael Tiber reported that 1,041 corneas were collected which were transplanted to 822 Wisconsin recipients, with 100 other USA and 119 international recipients. There were 265 other corneas used for education and research. Report on file.
Leo: VDG Randy Harrison reported that the Stoughton Lions are working on a Leo Club.
Peace Poster: Lion Dale Johnson was introduced as the new chairman, no report on activates. He did note that there was one check still outstanding from last year.

Pins: PDG Jerry Sherwin is looking for suggestions and ideas for new pin designs, the following ideas were suggested:
1. Design based on Wisconsin State Parks.
2. Design based on cheese makers tools.
3. Design based on Historical Wisconsin sites.
Red Cross Blood Drive: DG Daryl noted that many clubs are participating in blood drives, but it is not an "official" project, more a community service.
Research/Long Range Planning: PDG Arlen Milestone no report.
USA/Canada Leadership Forum, Sept. 13-15, 2012, Tampa Bay, FL. Reported on above by 1st VDG Falivno.
WLF Directors: PDG Walt Althaus reported that (report on file):
1. Camp season is almost over and all has gone well, no count on campers yet.
2. New club visit policy is working very well.
3. Trees damaged in the storm have been logged off, but there is a lot of cleanup to do.
4. Discussed what is involved in being a camp director; there are 24 directors that meet four (4) times per year.
5. Will be working on the Camp Budget to be presented in October.
Youth Exchange: Lion Dave Peltier noted that the District hosted five (5) students and sent four (4), it costs $17,000 per week to rent the Youth Exchange camp (not the Lions Camp). Report on file.
