October Cabinet Meeting
OCTOBER 2015 WISCONSIN LIONS MISSIONS REPORT
The Annual meeting of the Wisconsin Lions Missions was held in Reedsburg on Sunday, August 9th.
Three eye glass missions are set for the winter of 2015-16. The first will go to Haiti the first week of December. Seven Wisconsin Lions will do an eye glass mission as part of a larger medical mission.
The second mission will be February 22-26 in Grenada, Nicaragua. This is the 5th mission held in Nicaragua by Wisconsin Lions. We work closely with five Nicaraguan Lions Clubs and The Wisconsin Nicaragua Partners for these missions.
The third mission will be a new project in San Salvador, El Salvador. This will be held March Ist thru 5th in San Salvador. The recipients of glasses will be bussed in from rural communities as there is no suitable housing for us in the areas being served. The mission site will be at a military base. This project is being assisted by local Lions and the El Salvadoran Governors office.
There will be seventeen Wisconsin Lions involved for the first time on these missions. Future sites being considered are in Costa Rica and Guatamala.
Mexico is still considered unsafe but not forgotten. The Wisconsin Lions trailer filled with medical and school equipment and supplies will will go to McAllen, Texas in February where they are picked up for transport into Mexico. If clubs can round up these types of items you can contact me at (608) 846-4571 and arrange to get them picked up.
Respectfully submitted:
Erling Isely
District Chair
As the number of missions incrcase there will be opportunity for more Lions to be involved. There will be about 75 lions involved this year up from only 32 two years ago.
