CENTENNIAL Report
WOW!!!! Over a half million people were helped this year by the Lions of 27D1. That is 245 people per Lion. Lions put in 89,267 hours, conducted 3148 activities and donated $341,734.
We had 57 of 58 clubs earn banner patches participating in the four Global Service Activities. Most of those patches are diamond patches, meaning that their club did activities in all four categories. This year a 5 th category has been added-Diabetes.
We rocked the Statewide Eyeglass Challenge. The original goal was to collect 100,000 pairs of used eyeglasses between October 1, 2016 and state convention May 6, 2017. Because of our state 295,308 people will be able to receive glasses. Imagine not being able to see clearly. Lives are changed once someone can see again. District 27D1 stepped up to the challenge and ran with it. We collected 65,505 pairs of glasses. That is almost 29 pairs per member. And with those numbers we won the challenge and will be able to celebrate with a party at district convention in March.
The international centennial convention was held July 1-4 in Chicago. Lions celebrated turning 100 in a big way. The international parade kicked off the festivities. There was music every day in some way. The African Children's Choir was a huge hit. And the entire convention was filled with celebrations.
Speaking of celebrations.... How is your club celebrating turning 100? We asked you to participate in the global service activities. DONE. We asked you to invite for impact and increase your membership. DONE. We asked that you do a legacy project. DONE. Now we ask that you celebrate. Celebrate with your club and community. Share what you are doing, so others can also celebrate. Let's mark this one... DONE.
