Health and Wellness Report
When I went to the USA Canada Leadership Forum in Milwaukee, (then) International President Sid Scruggs said, in his keynote address, "If it's good, make it better. If it's better, make it best". As Lions we do that to help others, serve others. But if we take care of ourselves, we can serve others longer.
The Wellness initiative would have (3) parts, rolled out over a 3 year time period. For the first year, I'd like to concentrate on small changes in diet - "make it better". There will be a Facebook Group, and to join this Wellness Club, you:
1) Join the FB Group
2) Sign up for My Fitness Pal (an online tracker to track meals and exercise)
3) A personal goal to improve your nutrition (eg, giving up soda, eating vegetables every day, etc). Something that is not easy - for instance, if you already eat vegetables every day, that would not be a goal. Maybe drinking more water or making a lunch to take with you to work instead of eating out all the time would be a good goal. I will be posting recipes and some articles about nutrition on the FB group. I will also be available to check in with members on how they are doing with their personal goals and give encouragement.
I want to emphasize a few things:
- This is not for weight loss. It is for overall health and well being. People that concentrate on a number want results quickly, and improving your health takes time.
- This is not a diet. These are lifestyle changes for better overall health.
- This is not a "shaming" group. This is to support each other as me move toward better overall heath.
- No matter what your age, you can improve your heath through nutrition and exercise.
In subsequent years I'd like to dive into nutrition education, and exercise.
