Wisconsin Lions Foundation Report
It is camp time in the Wisconsin Lions Foundation. As I write this we are entering the second half of the camping season. I got an emergency call on the opening Sunday and got to be a driver for one of the Vision Impaired Adults. A new experience for me and all went well except the suit case was very heavy. The staff was helpful and patient as I lead my camper thru the check-in and turned him over to his cabin counselor. Taking a turn as driver makes me aware of the service provided by many of our Wisconsin Lions and appreciative of the many volunteers required to provide this experience for the campers. I was more comfortable on the way home on Friday, luckily we both preferred Burger King.
Two weeks later we were in the second week of Camp Lakota, Diabetes Camp and the annual weekday meeting of the Diabetes Focus Group. We got reports from the Diabetes camp staff and ADA volunteers. We were visited by a number of ADA professionals from around the Midwest who had to come to see how effective this joint effort has worked. A productive meeting with interest in what challengles may face the Dabetes Focus Group as Lions Club International rolls out its new Diabetes Program. It is important that all disticts have representation on the Focus Group so your members and communities can benefit from its programs.
It is July and the new Lion year is started. As you are helping your districts plan their year and possible programs for your club meetings please encourage them to invite there Wisconsin Lions Foundation Directors to visit their clubs and give a presentation on who we area and what progams we have to help you provide service to your communities.
Please rember as they establish budgets to continue to support the service that WLF provides to the Lions of Wisconsin and the members of your communities. Last year your clubs donated $783,000.00 to the foundation which is a 2% increase. $77,342.50 was the return on the Deer Hide Project last year which is a increase of $7000 this year.
Wednesday Camp tours continue and there are still spaces available. Call and make a reservation. Hustle /S'more provides a day of fun, activity and a chance to look over your camp. Register and get ready to run, walk or ride. Have prospective members? Bring them along to see what we have accomplished and invite them to help it continue.
As the new WLF President I look forward to working with this years COG Team and seeing you throughout the year at your conventions. How about an eye glass sort at your convention?
Respectfully aubmitted
Lion John Dickson
President
