27-D1 Diabetes Report
Diabetes committee members Bob Faliveno, Becky Faliveno and John Dickson traveled to Lions Camp in October for the Diabetes Focus Group meeting. The Mt. Horeb Lions sent their newest member, Jill Kietzke, to the meeting as well. Jill is a registered nurse specializing in Diabetes awareness with the UW Hospital and clinics. She has become very active in the district's Diabetes awareness activities, attending several meetings outside of the Lions organization, and brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. Several new ideas were shared among the participants and the feedback was beneficial to all.
Co-Chair Winnie Jentz recently attended a seminar on Diabetes in Rockford Ill. She continues to act as Diabetes chair on the Lioness cabinet and has been actively working with Walmart stores to promote their Diabetes Awareness Days and is also trying to get cheaper meters, strips and daily logs for diabetics to use.
Two more awareness kits were given out to the Potosi Lions and the Pardeeville Lions to use at their wellness fairs for December and January respectively. The Potosi Lions also requested, and received, the Diabetes door hangers for an upcoming community event involving their Leo club. The Mt. Horeb Lions set up a Diabetes Awareness display at the village's local supermarket on Diabetes Alert Day using the informational handouts supplied by the Focus Group also.
Things have been relatively quiet the past 3 weeks due to the holidays, but we expect to be hearing from more clubs soon as the New Year progresses.
