Reading Action Program Report
We are testing the use of Prevent Blindness Wisconsin's Your Amazing Eyes program at the Fitchburg Library with the goal of having Lions Clubs across 27-D1 use the kit at their local libraries and to vision screen the participating children.
The kit is designed to help preschoolers learn how to take care of their eyes and encourage early literacy. The kit is well organized and has excellent activities for children. The books are already being used in story times at the Fitchburg Library. Our library is interested in doing vision screening with the preschool children. Both children's librarians thought some of the activities were beyond the ability of the preschoolers. For this reason I have not taught any of the children yet. In addition, both of the librarians recently had back to back pregnancy leaves. It is my intention to get screenings scheduled in the coming months.
Prevent Blindness Wisconsin is working on new curriculum that can be used with younger children. Once it is available, we can assess how it works with younger children.
