Diabetes Committee Report
Lion Mary Stanek
Muscoda, Avoca, and Blue River (approx. 60 members)
• Report at each club meeting
• Lion Mary and another club member attended the WI Lions Diabetes Focus Group in June at Rosholt. They have kids in their district that attend camp for many years. One just graduated this year (Age 16). Reported back to their club at the next meeting. Replenished the supply of diabetes material.
• Attend Senior Center meals to distribute information and be a presence in the community for questions.
• One club member in the area built a wooden display table that they use to display at multiple events: Mushroom Fest in May, library entrance, churches and at other civic organization meetings.
• This spring the school district has a Wellness Day where Lions have presentations or displays; as well as held a Walk for a Cure, raising $1000 for camp.
• Work with school district in the fall during food drive to also hang door hangers about diabetes.
• Developed a diabetes committee within the school district to help coordinate events such as those discussed above. Also update new teachers and provide diabetes videos, any updates on a regular basis.

• Mailed out a small envelope of materials to all the clubs in the District to show what information is available to be requested free of charge from Wisconsin Lions Foundation.
• Manned heavily traveled areas in Beloit to answer questions and hand out information about diabetes.
• Used the bottle stickers for water bottles that were handed out on runs sponsored by the local health care system.
• Have traveled to WI Lions Camp and stocked multiple of boxes of this free printed material. When giving presentations or talks, a box is provided to the club diabetes chairs.
• District Diabetes Awareness Group supplies 2 tables for senior citizens health fairs within the community, which are manned by Lions

Mt Horeb
• Lions Bob and Becky Faliveno attended the WI Lions Diabetes Focus Group quarterly meeting held at WI Lion's Camp. Here they heard Pam Geis, from the State of WI talk about the increasing prevalence of prediabetes and the importance of including this in our diabetes information. They also heard two speakers from the American Diabetes Association.
• Lion Jill and Mazomanie Lion Verna Wallace attended the State Lions convention in Lake Geneva and also heard Pam talk about pre-diabetes.
• Lion Jill volunteered at Camp Lakota during week 1 for the second year in a row. Included in this report are some behind the scenes photos that you might not otherwise have access to. During week 1, there was also a camp tour held for a group of Lions from the Mazomanie club.
• July 28 Lions manned an information booth set up at the Madison Tour de Cure.
• In September, we will be manning a donation booth at the JDRF One Walk.
I look forward to meeting everyone and I cannot thank you enough for all of your hard work advocating for this costly, life-altering disease. I could not be more proud to be a member of the Lions for this reason.
