Building On Our Success
District Cabinet Meeting - Sunday, January 20, 2019
Diabetes Committee Report
Cold winter greetings from the Diabetes Committee!
Since the last cabinet meeting, the committee members have been out stomping the ground to other clubs to drum up support and service project that promote diabetes awareness.
Clubs that have been visited include Cross Plains, New Glarus, Shullsburg, and coming soon to Stoughton and Beloit Lionesses.
This is in addition to the service projects and talks we have been providing within our own clubs, including Beloit, Mt. Horeb, Cross Plains, and the Muscoda school district area.
We would love to hear from your clubs diabetes committee chairs. If you don't have a diabetes committee, please try to form one. If you need inspiration, you know where to find us.
Feb 2nd is the Wisconsin Lions Diabetes Focus Group Meeting, held at camp. Of course we will have someone in attendance from the committee. Thank you John Dickson for your presence there when derby and other duties did not allow the rest of us. ☺
As a reminder, I will be attending the American Diabetes Association's Call to Congress, 2019. Travelling to Washington DC from March 27-29 I hope we can make an impact on our leaders to support this devastating disease. I have set up a fundraising page to help ADA pull this event off, and to help offset the cost of those that depended on scholarships to be able to attend. This is especially important because some people are travelling with their children with Type 1 to flood DC with our power. If you feel called to support it, please do.
Upon my return I would like to put an early bug in your ear (if there are any flying around in this cold) that after the April Cabinet meeting I would personally like to pledge to have a committee member attend each zone meeting to share how we reached these legislators, as well as to bring back a new way to fight diabetes in our communities-being ADVOCATES.
Thank you again for all of your support!
Jill Kietzke, co-chair
