WISCONSIN LIONS MISSIONS Report
The Wisconsin Lions Missions annual meeting was held in Abbotsford on August 19th. It was decided that the annual assessment to each district would remain at $500.00.
There will be a small mission to Haiti the first week of November. There will be the fourth eye glass mission to El Salvador the last week of February, 2019. There are about 30 Wisconsin Lions signed up for this mission. Conditions in Nicaragua remain very volatile and there are no plans to return there any time soon. There will likely be a mission to Honduras in 2020.
We are working with a foundation on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota. We have met with school officials and a member of the tribal council and have tentatively planned for two missions there. The first would be November 26th thru the 30th this year. This would be a work week doing home repairs and other building projects in the town of Wamblee where the Families Working Together foundation has a warehouse, food bank, dormitory for volunteers and provides training and other services to area residents. In addition we would do a children vision screening and possibly a diabetes screening. Details are being worked out at this time.
The second mission would be an eye glasses mission May 19th thru the 25th. This would be in Kyle SD which is a larger town and is more centrally located on the reservation. All of these activities would be coordinated with the South Dakota Lions.
District C-2 is taking a truck load of school supplies, clothing and other items that were destined for an orphanage in Mexico to the reservation. Mexican authorities have told them it is not safe to bring them there.
