Lions Camp 2020 From Andrea Yenter
America Diabetes Association has made a difficult decision to shift all their summer camp programs from in person camp to on-line camps for 2020 due to concerns around the coronavirus. With no Diabetes camps this will delay the start of summer camp. The new schedule is:
June 8-18 Staff Training
Block One
June 21-26 Adults who are blind or Visually Impaired
June 28-July 3 Children with Intellectual Disabilities or Autism
July 5-10 Children with Intellectual Disabilities or Autism
July 12-15 Children with Intellectual Disabilities or Autism “mini camp program”
July 16-18 Staff time off
Block Two
July 19-24 Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
July 26-31 Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
August 2-7 Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired
August 9-13 Adults 18-25 with Intellectual Disabilities or Autism
August 17-21 Adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
The hardest decision we've made so far is to cancel all club tours, visitor days and other tours. If we do hold camp, we need to keep as many “extra” people out of the facility as possible to minimize exposure. Clubs and people who have booked will be contacted by Jason, our off Season Program Supervisor to officially cancel their visits.
Lions Pride Sporting Clay Shoot on June 13, 2020 has been cancelled. Wisconsin Lions Foundation and Lions Camp staff has been working from their homes these past weeks.
Dates to remember that are still on is:
Birch Strum Golf Outing July 18, 2020
Hustle S'more for Lions Camp August 15, 2020
Lions Camp for Kids Raffle will be September 11, 2020 at 1:30pm at the Wisconsin Lions Foundation office.
We will be contacting you or you can call Lion Laurie Holthaus (608) 317-4239 (please leave a message) or email me at laurieholthaus@gmail.com to get the tickets out to your clubs. We will be delivering them to your club member. Please remember to send in your club donations. It is most important to get it in during time like these to keep our state projects running.
Property/camp operations
Needed repairs are getting done at camp to maintain the property.
House Bill 895.508 that will relieve charitable organizations of liability is slowly moving through the process. Please contact you representatives to express support on this.
Districts are doing children vision screening! Milwaukee Schools had never had their children vision screened, are now allowing Lions to do the vision screening.
New diabetes materials have been received at the Lions Foundation Office. Please call Liz to order what is needed. It was voted to grant $1500 to D1 for the Trollway Community Diabetes Project that Diabetes Chair Jill Kietzke is initiating as a prevention program.
We would like to thank Lion Steve Ver Kuilen for his years of service to the WLF Board.
Respectfully Submitted,
WLF Directors Lion Steve Ver Kuilen, Lion Laurie Holthaus and Lioness Representative Julie Baglama
