District Cabinet Meeting - Sunday, January 30, 2022
Vision Committee Report

Cabinet Members,

I hope that everyone has had a great Holiday Season and have come through safely into A New Year. There have been improvements in our ability to screen children this year as we have been able to add some new locations that we have screened this year, but we have still not been able to screen in many of our usual events and locations. We have a long way to go to get back to our peak screening period prior to COVID-19.

There have been some changes in our training resources recently -

     • Prevent Blindness will be charging each Lion $75.00 per training event after January 1st, 2022. This is achange from the free training in the past.

     • PlusOptix has updated their software to include “HOTV critical line / 2-line difference testing”. (Chart Reading) v7.2.6.0

     • WLF Board to begin a Vision Screening Training Program within each District. They are looking for people who are willing to become trainers for the screening in each District. (Hopefully two per District). More information to come from WLF.

Covid-19 is still a deciding factor in screening in our schools and public screenings. There is more interest in developing an outdoor (community event) option which can allow screenings for Home Schooled children and allowing any child to be screened. We have missed a good many children during the last two years that would have been referred for professional testing. We need to keep in mind the safety of our screeners while they are conduction the screening process.

There has been interest in purchasing a tent that would allow us to setup in any area where there is concern of excess sunlight and more open environment for COVID-19 concerns. A 10’X20’ tent with side curtains could allow for a divider in the center and open air around the registration section. This would restrict the screeners area 10’X10’ to only necessary occupants and still block the sunlight. I have researched this idea and working with input from camera manufacturers, I believe that we could be successful with this approach in screenings.

I would like to make the following “Request for Action”:

1. Purchase a 10’x20’ tent (Model H7265 Blue) aluminum Frame tent - $449.00
2. Purchase Side Walls for Instant Canopy 10’x20’ (Model H-7267Blu) 6 walls - 3 zipper, 3 solid - $119.00
3. Purchase Canopy Weights 10lbs@ carton of 4 (Model H-8015) 2 each $37.00 for $74.00 total

Purchase total - $642.00 + tax $38.78, + shipping $63.12 ($743.90) (Purchased from ULINE Catalog)

Justification: This would help to develop new screening procedures during the COVID-19 era and continue to be available for outdoor screening events afterwards. This would allow us to screen children that may not be associated with current events with public invited families.

Respectfully submitted,
