District Cabinet Meeting - Friday, March 11, 2022
Wisconsin Lions Foundation Board of Directors Report
Our last meeting was on Saturday February 26 at the Lions camp.
The camping season looks good for this year. We will be having the full ten weeks with 125 campers per week. Camp registrations are in progress with 420 confirmed campers at this time.
This spring we will be having a solar system installed on one of our cabins by Mid-State Renewable Energy Society. This is a group of students studying to become Renewable Energy Technicians. They have received federal and state grants and work with other non-profits to donate equipment, so there is no cost to us. This will save hundreds of dollars in electric cost for us each year. We are hoping to ad more buildings to this program in the next few years.
Diabetes Alert Day is March 22, we encourage all clubs to do a service or awareness project that day or sometime in March. There will be a Strides event at the State Convention, similar to last years.
Vision Screening Training from PlusOptix by Tammy Johnson will be on Friday at the District Convention. She will also be doing a Train the Trainer on Saturday. This will mean that certified Lions can train other Lions in the District about the camera.
We have collected 575,323 used eyeglasses since July 1, 2021. 86,139 pair have been shipped for 22 missions.
The Assembly Bill 538 will be going to Governor Evers to sign. This means that used eyeglasses may be given to a person in financial need in Wisconsin. The glasses need to be in good condition and inspected. This is something that a lot of Lions have been asking for.
Thanks to everyone for club and personal financial donations.
WLF Directors, Lions John Elvekrog & Laurie Holthaus
