Vision Committee Report

The current progress of our screenings is ramping up as we are into the 2023-24 school year. Clubs are requesting the use of our district cameras, and the reports are coming into Scott Grover to process. I believe that the number of screenings should be very much in line with normal expectation of the number of children being screened.

We have conducted several screener trainings so far and are working to schedule more.

We have had a couple of questions submitted to our committee that we are working on the solution to answer these questions.

1. We have been running into roadblocks when talking to some nurses about the use of our camera equipment on students older than 6 years old. Some nurses are not convinced that our photorefractive equipment is beneficial to use in their screening programs at schools.

2. I have attached a copy of our communications with Plusoptix requesting a more clarifying example of what standards (not acronyms) these cameras comply with, so we can work with nurses to help them understand the Comparision with charts. Understand that most of us do not have the background to explain or debate a medical standard. (see attachment for more info). We are keeping Keith Mueller at WLF informed in our efforts as he can share with others.

27D1 Vision Committee has received a request to assist in covering the cost of updating the Portage Lions Club Spot camera. Lion Emil Mravik has asked as they are not able to receive a reduced cost extended warranty as we have with our Plusoptix equipment, and they have been contributing to our vision screening budget with donations, if some or all of this $434.00 could be covered out of our vision committee budget. My request was for Emil to submit the attached request to the 27D1 Cabinet for consideration to their request.

I understand that there are only 3 Spot Cameras owned by Lions Clubs in 27D1.

I am asking for action to be taken on this request.

Respectfully submitted,

Lion Milo Parker
