27D1 Vision Committee Report
Cabinet Members,
We have entered another year of doing good service to our communities. Our vision screening has increased this last year 2023-24 to level close to what we had in 2018-19. This year we have reached 12,722 individuals screened with 1,185 referred. That puts us at a 9.31% referral rate. I am in the process of comparing the screening locations and the clubs that participated this year with 2018-19. That year we had about 2,000 more individuals screened, but this year is higher than all years in between.
We have been working with Keith Meuller at WLF with the updating of the Plusoptix extended warranty for 2024-27. The rate has gone up from $150.00 for 3 years last time, to a rate of $206.50 per camera this time. This seems reasonable for the inflation rate and supply chain issues we currently have. There are 41 Plusoptix cameras participating in this program this time (30 needed for this discount rate). There are 4 additional club cameras and 1 district camera that are currently under their purchase warranty in 27D1. They will be eligible for the extended warranty when their purchase warranty expires. Treasurer William Severson has paid the initial 27D1 camera invoice from WLF in order to streamline the process. Each club has been invoiced (by 27D1) the $206.50 for each device they have enrolled in this program and this will replace most of the funds spent by 27D1. Total amount paid out for the extended warranty is $2,478.00. There are 3 cameras from 27D1 that will be at the cost of the district Vision funds. ($619.50).
On June 29th there was a Plusoptix “Train the Trainer” certification session at WLF, that was given by Tammy Johnson of Plusoptix. This was to certify or re-certify lions for the objective of training vision screeners within each district. 27D1 had 5 Lions participate in this training -
*Bonnie Jorstad of Edgerton Lions Club
*Michelle Crisanti of Edgerton Lions Club
*Linda Hilvers of Cuba City Lions Club
*Tim Meier of Cuba City Lions Club
*Milo Parker of New Glarus Lions Club
We are working to be more available to assist clubs with screener certifications and assist clubs with questions about the reporting process.
During our March 8th District Convention, we certified 30 vision screeners in our Vision Screening training. The screening certifications are good for 5 years. We are encouraging each Lion screener to go online and take the Lions KidSight USA Vision Screener Training as part of their certification. By doing this, it allows us to focus on the proficiency with the Plusoptix camera during our certification training. Instructions for taking this KidSight Training can be found on the WLF webpage under “Resources” tab and the KidSight Training link.
I wish to thank everyone for their service and to encourage everyone to keep in mind the kids that are referrals may not receive the care they need without your good work.
Respectfully submitted,
Lion Milo Parker
