District Cabinet Meeting - Sunday, October 9, 2016 - Albany Lions Clubhouse

CABINET MEETING MINUTES

Call to Order 11:50 AM DG Eric Holthaus
Pledge 1st VDG Jodi Burmester
Song & Prayer was lead by Lion Julie Nygaard.

Lunch 12:00

DG Eric Holthaus mentioned that District dues must be paid 30 days in advance for clubs to be able to vote at the District Convention and reminded the Cabinet that the registration cost for the International Convention is $130 now and will go up in January. Over 8600 pairs of eyeglasses were collected the morning of the Cabinet meeting.

1st VDG Jodi Burmester spoke of the upcoming Region meetings and wanting to get next years Cabinet positions filled in January of 2017.

2nd VDG John Elverkrog talked about the schedule of Lions events over the next months.

IPDG Dick Schwedrsky - MyLCI reported that the District had 100% MMR in July and only 1 club missed in September.

Approval of the July Cabinet Meeting minutes 1st PDG Neil Winchell 2nd Al Johnson.

Approval of Agenda 1st AL Johnson 2nd PDG Phil Ingwell.

Lion Mike Keller conducted a 50/50 raffle with Lion Dave Hineline winning $105 and the remaining $105 going to the Restoring Hope House.

District Financial Status report was approved. 1st PDG Dick Schwedrsky 2nd PDG Rob Sherman.

Stuff the Bus 1st VDG Jodi Burmester reported that the 4th Annual Stuff the Bus had 105 participants in the state.

District Story Teller PDG Neil Winchell told a story of the difference between completed and finished.

IPDG Dick Schwedrsky was given an award by DG Eric Holthaus.

Committee Reports

Adult Vision Screening - the District held 5 screenings.

Childrens Vision Screening - Dave Hineline reported to please report any screenings to the District Chairman so they get reported to WLF.

Alert - Chair needed, lets look for a interested Lion for this position.

Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin - Board meeting October 27th.

Lioness - Affiliate ADP Lioness Carol Gilbert scheduled the next Board Meeting for October 27th.

CBI - Lion Al Greco announced a October 13th seminar from 5:30 to 8:30 at the Marriott West titled Empowering Women.

LCIF - Laurie Holthaus has pins for sale for the measles annitiative and to ask her for MJF info for the clubs.

Restoring Hope House - over 500 families have been served since the house opened with 1200 guest nights in 2016 with 31 states being represented along with Canada, Hong Kong and England. District 27-D1 has donated 76% of the funds for the Restoring Hope House.

Conventions - PDG John Jenson - State Convention is May 4th through the 6th, 2017 in LaCrosse WI. District Convention March 10th and 11th, meeting October 24th at the Marriott West in Middleton WI. International Convention June 30th - July 4th 2017 in Chicago. $130 registration until January 13th, 2017.

Diabetes - approval of expenditure 1st PDG John Jenson 2nd Lion Winnie Jentz.

GLT - Lion Al Johnson spoke about Officer training and the Emerging Lions training and Communicate like a Leader training available to Lions and this needs promotion.

GMT Lion Tammy Rockenbach - the District has 2284 members with 40% being women.

Information Technology - Lion Scott Grover said the District Website is up and running.

Hearing - PDG Richard Koch reported that 6 hearing aids have been approved since the last Cabinet meeting.

Reading Action Program - no report.

Leader Dog - Chairman Bill Kilian reported that donations are coming in slow and the kennels are paid for and almost complete.

Leo - No report

Peace poster - PDG Walt Althaus clubs need to get poster kits to schools and turned in by 11/15/16.

Youth Exchange - Ben August reported that 54 youth from 23 countries were hosted and would like donations by 12/15/16. A $100 stipend change for the host families to do 2-3 organized trips was approved. Motion by PDG Peter Cerniglia 2nd by Lion Joyce Koch.

Pins PDG Jerry Sherwin - No report.

Research & Long Range Planning - 1st VDG Jodi Burmester met in August and look for info by March of 2017.

USA/Canada Forum - Lion Tammy Rockenbach - the next Forum will be September 21-23 in Portland and Jodi Burmester has joined the planning committee.

WLF - John Dickson/PDG Neil Winchell Lion John thanked the Cabinet for the help with the eyeglasses this morning. PDG Neil talked about the Lions Camp and the over $700 cost for each camper and ways to help via Lions license plates or deer hides donated to the camp.

District Bowling - Rudes Lanes in Deforest in January.
State Bowling - 2017 in Marshfield WI and 2018 in Monroe WI.

Curling Bonspiel - State January 6th-8th in Centerville Curling Club in Dist.D2.

PDG Rob Sherman spoke of the District Governors looking for future Governors in other parts of the state to help with the leadership of the organization.

Environmental Photo Contest - submit photo to PDG Rob Sherman by 2/15/17.

Wisconsin Missions - Lion Erling Isley - Missions to Nicaragua and El Salvador, looking for 5-7 people for the El Salvador mission. A late March mission to Haiti is planned for 10 people. Approval for $500 was motioned by PID Phil Ingwell and 2nd by PDG Walt Althaus for help with shipping costs.

Centennial Celebration - Lion Tammy Rockenbach - over 112 million people served during the Centennial Service Campaign so why not go for 200 million by 6/30/18. Legacy projects are going great with awards being handed out at Region Meetings. Eyeglass project goes until State Convention in 2017. The Centennial torch will come to our State Convention in May, we will be looking for interest in going to the International Convention parade in July 17.
