27-D1 District Cabinet Meeting - October 6, 2024 - Albany Lions Club House
Cabinet Meeting Minutes
1). Call to order and welcome (DG Ron) @ 11:00 - thanked everyone for coming. There were thirty Lions in attendance, along with six Albany Lion volunteers.
2). Pledge of Allegiance (FVDG Jim)
3). Words of Wisdom (SVDG Tony) - 2 nd Vice DG Tony introduced a fundraiser called "Kiss a Fish". Tony explained the fundraiser and then handed out ballots that listed the PID's and for a donation of $10 you could vote for your PID choice to Kiss a Fish. He brought up PID's Peter and Phil being good candidates.
4). Invocation (FVDG Jim)
5). Meal - great meal, thank you Albany Lions.
6). Secretary's report August cabinet meeting (Lion Steve) - the meeting minutes from August were emailed out. There were no questions. A motion was made by PID Phil Ingwell and 2nd by Lion Tim Meier, motion carried.
7). Treasurer's report (Lion Bill) - CT Bill Severson went through the current financials and stated that they will also be posted on our website. PID Phil Ingwell asked how many clubs were delinquent. There are currently 6 clubs. DCT Bill also shared that he purchased a new laptop & QuickBooks program. A motion was made by PDG Tammy Rockenbach to accept the Treasurer report and 2nd by PDG John Elvekrog. Motion carried.
8). Vision screening trailer - Lion Milo Parker outlined the opportunity to purchase a construction trailer that could be converted into a traveling eye screening trailer. There was much discussion regarding pros and cons. There were concerns regarding the weight of the trailer and needing a ¾ ton truck to pull it. Also, being a construction office trailer, it was not meant to be over the road that much and then there was storage, licensing, etc. In the end there was not a motion to purchase so not purchasing.
9). Convention updates and website expense approval - DG Ron explained the cost of having the website updated for this year's District Convention. DG Ron and IPDG Jeff, misunderstood what they originally thought the site would cost, which was $300. It is actually $1,200. PID Phil Ingwell asked if there were any other options. PDG Tammy said she thought we should approve and then look at other less expensive options for next year, as time was getting short. 2 nd VDG Tony made a motion to approved the $1,200 and it was 2 nd by PDG Al Johnson. Motion carried. CT Bill Severson asked if the State would also pay an additional $1,200, which it was confirmed, they will.
10). Committee reports:
A). GAT - GMT Tim Meier reported membership is slightly down. He also reported that PDG Tammy Rockenbach is the MD GMT for this year. He then announced the three regional meetings, the date and locations. They are Regions 1 & 2 - Pinseekers in Deforest - 10/28/2024, Regions 3 & 4 - Albany Lions Club - 10/24/2024 and Regions 5 & 6 - Crossroads in Arthur - 10/23/2024.
GST Al Johnson reported that only 27 clubs have reported service so far, this fiscal year. None of the 16 Leo's Clubs have reported. Service Day will be April 26th - plan any service project for that day and ask your community to get involved.
GET Jodi Burmester - this is a new position. Looking to start a new club in the district and to start we are focusing on an Environmental Club. One thing that we can use is AI, other tools are Lions Virtual, YouTube and ChatGPT - open AI. Stay Tuned. GLT Bill Clausius - Members of the GAT Team are all involved with the district's growth plan. As we start new clubs we will need additional Guiding Lions throughout the district. GLT Bill will be working with Lion Steve Pogue in planning a Guided Lion Training date.
B). LEBW (report Lion Erica) - Went through some of the highlights in the LEBW Council of Governors Report (report was in the packet emailed out and on our District website). Also, reported that she will be on the Lions float in the Rose Bowl Parade and will look to DG Ron for direction.
C). RHTH (report) - no report
D). USA/Canada Forum (report FVDG Jim) - Lion Tammy reported and said it was wonderful. There were over 100 topics covered. The most popular were standing room only with seating of 240 to 300 attendees. Total attendance for the Forum was 1,917, with 85 Lions from Wisconsin. Next year's Forum is in Atlantic City on September 18th - 20th.
E). Child vision screening report (Lion Milo) - Reported that we reached the highest number of screenings since 2018-2019. In 2023-2024 there were 12,674 screenings with 1,170 referrals (9.15%). He reported that more clubs are using printers and he is requesting that the district purchase a Plusoptix P12 printer to use with Club cameras as a loaner (we currently have 4 camaras with companion printers). Motion made by Rick Daluge and 2nd by PDG Tammy Rockenbach. Motion passed.
F). Adult vision screening (PDG Bob) - Secretary Steve read PDG Bob's submitted report. It included four dates in October that screenings would be done in area Health Fairs Oct. 1st, 3rd, 12th and 24th. He is still looking for volunteers for the Latino Health Fair on the 12th.
G). District convention March 28-29, 2025 (IPDG Jeff) - DG Ron announced that a convention meeting is coming up on October 29 th at the Eye Bank at 6:00.
H). Peace Poster (Lion Katie) - no report
I). Youth Exchange (Lion Crystal) - no report
J). WLF (report Lion Jim/PDG John) - Lion John reported that our District had 5 winners from the raffle this year with Lion Arlen taking the $1,500 prize. Birch-Sturm was up $10,000 this year. As a District we donated $70,000 and unfortunately, we were in the bottom half. PDG John would like to see us get to $100,000 this year.
K). LCIF (PDG Conrad) - no report
L). Diabetes (report Lion Jill) - report came late and Lion Jill was not in attendance. Report is attached to the other reports submitted and the meeting minutes.
M). Leader Dog (Lion Patty) - no report
N). Childhood Cancer (report Lion Julie) - Lion Julie Baglama reported that new State Chair Terry Tevita has been communicating via emails, with a Zoom meeting on October 7 th . He has chosen The Little Warrior Fund to be the recipient of this year's endeavor. You can visit LittleWarrior.org.
N). Stuff the Bus (Lion Bruce) - Lion Bruce sent in a report and Secretary Steve read it. Seven Clubs have reported results; Cuba City, Edgerton, Madison Clubs, Marshall, Mazomanie, McFarland and Pardeeville. Emails have been sent to Presidents and Secretaries requesting their results.
O). Birch-Sturm (Lion Greg) - PDG John covered in the WLF report.
P). Leo Report (Lion Brenda) - Lion Brenda sent in a report and Secretary Steve read it. Since the last Cabinet meeting she has received information that Janesville has two Leos Clubs that are trying to get going, which is great news. The two are Janesville Craig and Wisconsin School for the Blind & Visually Impaired. There will be a Leos program at the District Convention.
Q). Environment (Lion Leah) - Lion Leah sent in a report which Secretary Steve read. She is putting together a composting PowerPoint that can be shared. Also putting together a number of articles that can be used in the District newsletter.
R). Lions Missions (IPDG Jeff) - DG Ron discussed a need in the flooded areas of eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina from hurricane Helene. There is a handout that Secretary Pogue will send out on Monday to all Presidents and Secretaries. Lion Ron asked for a motion to donate some monies for the relief. PDG Rick Daluge made a motion for $3,000 out of our $15,000 Missions account. SVDG Tony seconded the motion and the motion carried.

T). Hearing (Lion Laurie) - no report
U). Other - 1.) Lee Vrieze celebration next Saturday, October 12th . A motion was made by PDG John Elvekrog to give $250 to the fund, 2 nd by FVDG Jim Klubertanz, motion carried.
2.) FVDG Jim announced he is starting to look at next year's cabinet and also a candidate for 2nd VDG.
