District 27 - D1

27-D1 District Cabinet Meeting - August 4, 2024 - Sun Prairie Lions Club House

1). Call to order and welcome (DG Ron) @11:00 AM - thanked everyone for coming. There were 56 Lions in attendance along with 10 Sun Prairie Lion volunteers and one Lions Exchange student.

2). Pledge of Allegiance (FVDG Jim)

3). Words of Wisdom (SVDG Tony) - “So many things that we do” - Tony touched on a few of our missions and service projects.

4). Invocation (FVDG Jim)

5). Meal

6). Installation of Cabinet (PID Mark Hintzmann) - PID Mark used a football team theme to induct each of DG Ron's cabinet.

7). Secretary's report May cabinet meeting (Lion Steve) - Lion Andy's minutes from the May cabinet meeting were emailed out to everyone. There were no questions. Motion by PDG Al Johnson and 2 nd by PDG Arlen Milestone. Motion carried. It was brought up that the ballots from this year's district election need to be destroyed, however a vote to do so is needed. A motion was made by PDG Erik Holthaus and a 2nd by PDG Phil Ingwell. Motion carried.

8). Treasurer's report and approval of budget (Lion Bill) - CT Bill Severson presented the current financial statements. Will be on the website. Lion Bill did go over the #'s, $42,000 in admin, $62,000 in activities and $14,000 in the emergency fund. PDG Phil Ingwell inquired if we have donated to Youth Exchange, in which we had. Motion made by PDG Rick Daluge with a second by PDG Bill Clausius to approve Treasurer's report. Motion carried.

9). IPDG recognition (DG Ron) - DG Ron recognized IPDG Jeff Winkler for his leadership last year and how he learned a lot from Jeff and is very appreciative and presented Jeff with a plaque. GMT Tim Meier had a less serious gift presenting him a tee-shirt that had IPDG Jeff's “Reach More” hands logo on the front and on the back, one of Jeff's favorite sayings last year of “How Cool is That!”. It was well received.

10). 2024-25 District goals (DG Ron) - DG Ron discussed his goals for 2024-2025. The first is to have a District wide day of service. Looking at Arbor Day, April 25th . We could promote it through local TV, Facebook, X (formally Twitter), etc. Another is to have the district at plus 10 members at the end of his term. Also increase retention rate by 10%. Another is to increase service reporting to 85% of the district clubs. Also have 25% more clubs make a donation to LCIF. DG Ron will also continue IPDG Jeff's goal of increasing the clubs that are participating in the Peace Poster entries. His goal is to have 5 additional clubs participate this year. PDG Jodi B. has accepted a new GAT team position (the GET) where she will work to find areas and start new clubs. PDG Peter C. said we will need help. One possibility could be a gardening club. DG Ron also spent a few minutes to report on his trip to Australia for the International convention.

A). GAT - PDG Bill Clausius sent in a report

B). LEBW (report Lion Erica) - Lion Erica went over last years information. Our club's dollar collection and donations this past year were up. She also shared that she had a cornea transplant when she was a child and hopes to celebrate her 40th year with the transplant at the Rosebowl. She also announced that IPDG Jeff is a new member of the LEBW board.

C). RHTH (report) - report submitted and on the website.

D). USA/Canada Forum (report FVDG Jim) - PDG Tammy sent in a report and 1st DG Jim went over it.

E). Child vision screening report (Lion Milo) - 3-year update has been done. Every club should have been billed $47 for the update on the camera. Also, training is coming soon. Certification available or helper training.

F). Adult vision screening (PDG Bob F.) - August 28th will be the 2 nd year partnering with Hy-Vee. November 9 th is another event where, last year, they had approximately 200 Spanish speaking adults come through, with a 50% referral rate. The Humphrey device is being used and there will be training if you'd like to be a part.

G). District convention March 28-29, 2025 (IPDG Jeff) - PDG Jeff will be leading this year's convention as DG Ron did it for IPDG Jeff last year. First meeting in September and this year's theme is Tee it Up for Service!

H). Peace Poster (Lion Katie) - Lion Katie has some kits available if interested and is hoping to grow our participation from 8 clubs last year.

I). Youth Exchange (Lion Crystal) - Lion Crystal introduced an exchange student that her family is hosting. Dalma Kurti is from Hungry. She spoke briefly about her experience so far. There are 20 exchange students in our Wisconsin Multiple District this year and Dalma is the only one in our district. Crystal did encourage others to consider hosting next year. Deadline for a scholarship is December.

J). WLF (report Lion Jim/PDG John) - PDG John thanked every one for their donations this past year. He said donations were up from $50,000 to $65,000. August 16th he and Lion Jim are going up to camp so if you have eye glasses or raffle tickets please get them to either of them and they will take them up.

K). LCIF (PDG Conrad) - We have not made our goals for donations and DG Ron is hoping to change that.

L). Diabetes (report Lion Jill) - Lion Jill did send in a report and I read part of the report and it is posted as well.

M). Leader Dog (Lion Patty) - Lion Patty thanked everyone for their donations and gave a brief report. She did state that her eye site continues to digress.

N). Childhood Cancer (report Lion Julie) - PDG Terry Tabeta will be the new chair this year.

O). Stuff the Bus (Lion Bruce) - Lion Bruce submitted a report and DG Ron read it. It is also posted on our website.

P). Birch-Sturm (Lion Greg) - Lion Greg Clark thanks PDG Conrad Dryer for his service. He then turned to DG Ron and thanked DG Ron (sort of) for bringing is name up as the “only” option as an appointee.

Q). Leo Report (Lion Brenda) - Lion Brenda said that the administrators for Leo's have said it is tough to report in the system, as well as having other challenges.

R). Environment (Lion Leah) - Lion Leah is newly appointed. Nothing to report at this time. Stay tune!

S). Lions Missions (IPDG Jeff) - IPDG Jeff reported that the Epp's (members of Deforest/ Windsor) started the Mission. Since his passing we have not been active and we are now in arrears for $1,800 ($600/yr for the last 3 years). Treasurer Bill would like to receive an invoice in order to process the payment. IPDG Jeff will work to rekindle the relationship and commitment to the mission.

T). New voices (report Lion Adam) - reported we are a leader in this area with four recognitions/year.

U). Hearing (Lion Laurie) - no report

V). Other:

1). UW Lions Club - PDG Bob Faliveno would like to see this club continue. PDG Rick Daluge then spoke up of the requirement that 3 students and 1 advisor were needed. Then DG Tony then said he had a box of items from the UW club. Lion Julie Baglama said she recently meet with a young man that was interested in getting it going. Stay tuned!

2). Eye Bank Memorial Garden - Discussion began regarding taking $5,000 from our emergency fund to donation to the Eye Bank Memorial Garden. There was discussion as to why we had the emergency fund and Bob Faliveno asked if we cold rename the fund. Treasurer Bill said that there would need to be a policy change, so we could not act today on a name change. Rich Daluge made a motion to take $5,000 out of the $14,000 emergency fund and make a donation in that amount to The Eye Bank Memorial Fund. PDG Bob F. and Peter C. 2nd the motion. It passed. The ground breaking will be on October 12th.

12). Zone and Regional meetings - Regional meeting dates have been tentatively set. Zone meeting dates will be set soon.
