Minutes

Meeting was called to order by District Governor Alan Johnson at: 11:32 am.

DG Lion Al took a moment to reflect on the passing of Lion John Dickson.

1. Secretary Report - GLT Lion Tony Sobczak, Acting Secretary
Lion Tony reported that the minutes of the July Cabinet meeting were emailed to all cabinet members. Additionally, the minutes are posted to our district website.

2. Treasurer report - Lion Bill Severson
• Reported the Treasures report is available on the District Website and that the district is in good financial standing.
• Motion by: Lion Bill Severson -“I move to accept the Treasure's report”

3. GAT report - GST Lion Steve Pogue
• Report on the success of the zone meetings.
• Regional meetings will be:
○ Zone 1 & 2 October 24 Rex's Innkeeper
○ Zone 3 & 4 October 27 Albany Lions Club House
○ Zone 5 & 6 October 26 Crossroads Supper Club
• Membership
○ Gained 46 new members
○ Lost 61 members
○ Net district membership - 15

4. GMA Report - PDG Lion Tammy Rockenbach
• Reported that 27% of district members have completed the survey sent out to gauge their satisfaction and thoughts on the future direction of the club.
• Members are urged to complete the survey which will stay open until June 30, 2022.
• Explained the S.W.O.T. (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis and how it can help our clubs and our district.

5. Birch-Sturm Report - PDG Lion Conrad Dryer
Lion Conrad reported that his report is posted on the district website. Lion Conrad stressed that if any clubs would like him to come to their meeting so he can present a Birch-Sturm award that he is happy to do so.

6. Diabetes Report - ZC Lion Julie Baglama
• Julie reported that they are working on a Diabetes themed scavenger hunt - More information to follow.
• The Diabetes committee will be helping to fund some Diabetes testing around the district.

7. Pediatric Cancer Initiative Report - ZC Lion Julie Baglama
• Committee report has been posted to the district website
• Marshfield Clinic just had the Grand Opening of their new Pediatric Healing Center.
• Marshfield Clinic is in need of special shirts that have openings for “ports” so the patient does not need to undress to receive treatment.
• Lion Phil Ingwell suggested that we add Childhood Cancer as a line item in our district budget.
• Motion by: Bill Hustad “I move to create a line item for childhood cancer in the district budget”

8. Hope Transplant House Report - PDG Lion Bob
• Transplant house is doing well and they are working very hard.
• Need more support
• Have been/will be having tables at all state District Conventions to help spread the word and solicit donations.
• Will be applying for some grants.
• Fleece in two-yard increments is appreciated and will help keep furniture clean.
• They are in need of Lift Chairs.

9. Retention - Lion Becky Faliveno
• Committee report available on the District Website
• 21 exit surveys sent, 3 complete.

10. Hearing Preservation - Lion Laurie Holthaus
• No applications at this time
• Reminder - Get Hearing Aid request forms from WLF

11. Extension Chairman - Randy Harrison
No report

12. District Convention Update - DG Lion Al Johnson
• Lion Al gave a preliminary schedule for both Friday and Saturday events.
• Lion Tammy described some of the service projects that will be happening at convention and requested funding from the emergency fund.
• Motion by: Tony Sobczak “I move to authorize up to $1,500 from the emergency fund to be used for service projects at the 2023 District Convention”
• Second by: Adam Crowson

• Lion Al reminded attendees convention is for the members and we as a cabinet need to help promote it and get as many club members as possible to attend.
• PDG Lion Jerry Sherwin spoke about Pin trading and a desire to have a presence at convention. Lion Laurie Holthaus will get him an application for a table.

13. Leos Report - Lion Al Johnson
• Be sure to have your Leos report their service. Club secretaries and administrators can assist them.
• Invite your Leos to Convention

14. Peace Poster - Bill Lund
• Slight increase in participation over last year
• Entries due to DG Al Johnson no later that November 15

15. Vision Screening - Milo Parker
• Screenings recovering to pre-pandemic numbers.
• Milo and his team will come to your club or zone to assist in training and/or doing vision screenings.
• Working with WLF on a “Train the Trainer program”
• Working to switch update reporting to age based rather than grade based.
• Possibly looking to create multiple levels of certification
• Leaders

• Three cameras currently on order - possible delivery before the end of 2022

16. Youth Exchange

17. USA Canada Forum - Tammy Rockenbach
Next USA/Canada Forum will be in September 2023 in Reno, NV

18. WLF Report - Lion Jim Fletcher
• Camp update
• Trail improvement project complete
• Utility costs are rising - Installed solar panels on one of the cabins. May install more.
• Dear hides - Goal is $95k this year. More info at Regional meetings.

Other Business
• PDG Lion Bob Faliveno said that adult vision screening is going well. They are in need of more volunteers.
• GMT Lion Adam Crowson reported on the Eye Bank
○ 1,000 transports statewide so far this year
○ Switching to more specific boxes for kits and corneas
○ Work on the Transporters Garden is slated to begin in Spring 2023
○ Review of Donations and earned Knight of Sight awards are available - Contact Lion Adam for more information.

• PDG Eric Holthaus reported that ELLI is next week. All requests for reimbursements should be sent to the district treasurer as soon as practicable.

Club Sharing
McFarland - District Bowling June 14, 2023
Lion Bruce Voight suggested that perhaps a more western club could host bowling in 2025
Mt Horeb - Lefse Sale - Pick up November 20 at the Mt Horeb Senior Center.

Madison/Monona - Meat Raffle every Saturday at Tullies.
PDG Lion Eric Holthaus mentioned that the Lacrosse Lions just celebrated their 100th Anniversary.

50/50 raffle - $80 prize to Lion Milo Parker
