Global Membership Team (GMT) - Adam Crowson reported that region meetings will be held as 3 Zoom meetings 10/26, 10/27, 10/28 at 7pm. Meetings will not be region or zone specific; attendees can choose the meeting that works best for them. Awards will be given out at the region meetings. The District has added 19 members and dropped 41 for a net loss of 22. This is primarily attributed to cleanup from the previous year. Currently averaging 7 clubs per month not reporting. Membership Chair training will be held on December 9 at 7pm. This session will be open to Membership Chairs, Presidents, Vice Presidents and Secretaries. The first session will be focused on Club Quality Initiative with additional sessions over the course of the Lions year implementing things from NAMI.
NAMI - PDG Jodi Burmester shared that the Lions Virtual Classroom for November is focusing on retention - “How To Keep Members In a Trying Time”. Four presenters from across the US and Canada. The exec team has identified a need to build the DG pipeline. A session called “So You Want To Be a DG” will be held 11/4 from 7:30-8:30pm. This session will provide an overview of the job and expectations. The bulk of the session will be a Q&A session. Past District Governors will be available to help answer questions.
Global Service Team (GST) - Bruce Voight reported that the Marshall Lions food delivery program won the District Kindness Matters Service Award and has moved on to the multiple district competition. There are 12 clubs that have not reported service for 5+ months, 6 of which haven't reported for 12-15 months. These clubs are being contacted to try to get them back on track. Bruce attended the state GST meeting and incomplete activity reports was a common topic. One takeaway was that many clubs have members that donate platelets - this can be reported as a childhood cancer activity.
Affiliate District Chair - ADC Greg Clark reported that commitment has been received from two clubs to convert with a third very likely to convert. Five Lioness individuals have converted, most of whom were Lioness cabinet members. Discussion continues with the remaining clubs.
Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin - Director Erica Singley shared that they are excited to have Stacy join the LCI core team to provide leadership. In addition, Stacy is also on the purchasing and logistics committee to expand buying power. Donor stats are currently low, but August looked more normal with 7 Lions Clubs made over 60 transports. PDG Rick Daluge added that donations from Lions Clubs are important to help operating costs. Currently running at about 2/3 the number of transplants as last year and COVID testing has added to the cost. The PPP loan report was filed requesting grant forgiveness.
Restoring Hope Transplant House - PDG Bob Faliveno reported that progress continues on the expansion with Middleton approving the permitting. Thank you to clubs for the work weekends. Incomes are down and expenses are up with the added rent expense of $2,400 per month. Currently seeking corporate sponsors. Almost all of the 75k from LCIF has been spent.
Wisconsin Lions Foundation - Director Laurie Holthaus reported that 118 campers were hosted before a counselor contracted COVID closing the camp for the remainder of the summer. The ADA will not be hosting their camp next year, but WLF is hoping to host a diabetes camp without them. Director Julie Baglama shared that WLF has a new website design and logo. Director John Elvekrog added that used eyeglass collection is still happening, and to contact one of the Directors to coordinate pickup. Deer hide collection is also still on.
Cancer Grant - Foundation Director, Julie Baglama reported that a new $30,000 grant has been proposed to renovate the solarium at the Marshfield Clinic. This space is used for doctors to talk with parents in cancer treatments and end of life discussions and allows a space for kids to play. Each district is being asked to raise $3,000 by January.
MOTION: 1 st VDG Bill Clausius/PDG Rick Daluge
To approve the District funding the $3,000 if not otherwise raised by the clubs.
…CARRIED…
Centennial - PDG Jodi Burmester reported that there was no news. The committee seems to be focused on the state convention. State GST has been asked to compile 100 acts of kindness.
Convention - Jessica Schwedrsky shared that a survey was sent to Lions to determine comfort level and interest in a virtual vs in-person convention.
Diabetes - Jill Ketzke reported that they are moving forward with the Mt. Horeb diabetes prevention classes. Jill will submit her expense reimbursement request to CT Bill Severson. The Call to Congress will likely be cancelled and the ADA isn't doing any in-person events for 2021.
Hearing - Foundation Director Laurie Holthaus reported that two applications have been received and three people have been approved for one hearing aid each.
District Orientation - PDG Rob Sherman reported that District level orientations will be restarting via Zoom. The class will be held the 2nd week of the month on either Monday or Tuesday. The session will cover for new Lions a general overview of Lions, clubs, districts, states, LCI and the major Lions service projects/organizations. Presentations will also be posted on the District website.
