District Cabinet Meeting - January 21, 2018

Cabinet Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order by DG Jodi Burmester at 3:15 p.m.

Thank you to Dale Burmester for setting up the meeting with all the tech components.

Welcome/DG comments -

Club Quality Initiative-Thank you to Lions Mike Keller, Tara Vraniak, IPDG Eric Holthous and ZC Laurie Holthous. Clubs seeing results.
CQI overview session will be a seminar at the convention
Officer's Training-all officers need to be at training
DG Jodi was elected to be Council Chair for next year's council. Congratulations.

Secretary's report - Minutes were posted on the website. Motion to approve the minutes - 1st PDG Rob Sherman, 2nd Lion Denise Zang. All those in favor of approving the minutes as presented / as amended please vote yes in the poll or chat window. Motion carried.

Treasurer's report was posted on the website. CT Bill Severson will be writing checks for all the activities. Dues statements will be available online with LCI. Chrome created some issues. Dues must be paid to vote at convention. Motion to accept the treasurer's report, 1st PDG Rob, 2nd by 1st VDG John Elvekrog. All those in favor of approving the minutes as presented / as amended please vote yes in the poll or chat window. Motion carried.

Standing Committee Reports

ADP Greg Clark - report submitted

Centennial - CS Tammy Rockenbach - report submitted. District 27D1 is rocking the centennial. Our district has 95% participation in the centennial service challenge. Sixteen clubs have added 3 or more members. Legacy projects - 79 projects. We won the Centennial Eyeglass Challenge last year. This year's challenge is Children's Vision Screening. The goal is to screen 100,000 kids. In the first six months we have screened over 9000.

GMT - Lion Tara report on file. At the region meetings we had 168 members attended with 81% of the clubs represented. Working on the Madison Club Growth and starting a Cyber Club for Diabetes. Dropped members surveys are being given to each of the zone chairs to share with the presidents of the clubs.

GLT - Lion Mike report on file. At CQI worked on smart plans. We had 40% of the clubs participate. Officer training in April 16-26 and will be six sessions. Get your officers in place. We want 100% participation. Look for more information at the beginning of February.

WLF - report on file. Foundation is working with the vision screening. Camp Director Andrea Yenter will be the morning keynote speaker at convention.

Lions Pride - asking that we double the donations for as these monies go to Lions Camp and other WLF projects. Looking for sustaining funds, not a set dollar amount.

LEBW - Lion Ron Blawusch ground breaking on the new building is January 25th at 12:30 pm. Location is next to the Sleep Inn Motel at the intersection of the Interstate and 12 & 18 on Trade Winds. Transporting support is on the website.

RHTH - report is on file.

CBI - report on file. A memorial fund has been established for Lion Al Greco.

Health and Wellness - report on file. A seminar on this subject will be at the district convention.

Committee Reports

District Convention - Lion Bill Clausius - We are looking for corporate sponsors. Daluge Travel and UW-Ophthalmology will be sponsoring two of the meals. Dates to remember: February 12 - ads for the program are due, Feb 13 is the deadline for accommodations and Feb 15 requests for tables have to be in. On Sunday we will have a cabinet meeting in the morning followed by your choice of two workshops, Growth and CRASE.

Lion of the Year nominations are due February 5, to Lion Lisa Ruth Krueger

Candidate Search and Review - PDG John Jenson - We have several contest this year. There are three candidates for 2nd VDG, two candidates for WLF Director and 2 clubs vying for district bowling. Candidates have all been informed of the procedure of nomination. We will be drawing lots Saturday morning for the order of the nominations.

As CS Tammy Rockenbach is a candidate for office at the 2018 District Convention & therefore cannot be involved with the election process, 27-D1 will amend our election procedures to allow CT Bill Severson to fulfill the normal CS Election Duties at the 2018 District Convention. Motion 1st IPDG Eric, 2nd GLT Mike. Motion carried.

State Convention - PDG John- because of the closure of the Olympia Convention Center the State Convention will be held at The Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva. It will remain the same weekend in May. Details are coming soon.

International Convention - PDG John - in Las Vegas

Policy - PDG John - report at the March meeting.

Children's Vision Screening - report filed. Lion Dave Hineline has a new form to report to WLF. Remember to submit your information to Lion Dave and to report in in MyLCI. Form is also available on the district website.

Environment - Lion Al Johnson - Thanked clubs for participating in roadside cleanup. DG Jodi would like an area-wide tree planting for Earth Day. Trees are available from the State DNR. Go under licensing/registration and then forestry. Trees must be ordered by the end of March. There is a 300 tree minimum, so recommend that we combine groups. Also trees can be given away, but cannot be sold. Information is on the website for costs.

Pins - report on file. Lion Brian McKay reported that 2017 did not have a pin. Recommend that we finish the courthouse series with a ghost pin of the Rock County Courthouse that is no longer in existence. Motion to finish the courthouse series with the Rock County Courthouse for 2017, 1st by Lion Scott Grover, 2nd by Lion Bill Bartlett. Motion carried. Starting a new series, recommend doing Railroad Depots. Motion to go with the Railroad Depots, 1st ZC Tony Sobcak, 2nd by ZC Laurie. Motion carried.

Social Media - report on file. Lion Brian informed us that 42 clubs have a Facebook page and 80% of the clubs have a social media presence. He will be reaching out to clubs to assist.

Other committee Reports

Peace Poster - report on file. Kits are available. 1st place - McFarland, 2nd place - Evansville, 3rd place-Albany. District winner took 4th place at state.

Hearing - PDG Rick Koch - new mailing address in Portage. Phone number and email are still the same.

Stuff the Bus - Lions Peter and Denise Zang - have made business cards with contact info. Would love to visit clubs to share strategies. D1 leads the way.

LCIF - ZC Laurie - celebrating their 50th anniversary. Donations are more important than ever with all the grants for disasters that have been given. Besides disaster grants, monies have been given for vision screening. State has submitted a grant request for a medical vehicle in Armenia. We have just completed the $30 million challenge with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the Measles Initiative.

80% of children are currently cured at the Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. Request support from Lions. This is a matching grant. LCIF will match 100,000.00. If state wide project, then the entire MD27 will get credit in newspaper, radio, etc. Children's cancer grant will be made a statewide initiative administered by the CC. Motion to approve a resolution by the Council of Governors of MD27, to participate in the LCIF standard grant for humanitarian services to improve childhood cancer care in WI, and to solicit funds from Lions clubs in WI.

MyLCI - PDG Dick Schwedrsky-we have had 6 straight months of all clubs submitting their MMR. Only 1 club did not have any activities for December.

USA/Canada Forum - CS Tammy-report on file. The forum is in Columbus, Ohio, September 20-22. Thursday night is a tailgate party and opens with John Pinero portraying Coach Vince Lombardi.

Club Announcements

Stoughton - 6th Annual Beer and Wine Tasting, February 10 th at BBG, Rose Sale, March 17 and DG Golf Outing August 14 at Coachmen's.

Oregon/Brooklyn - March 24 is Omelet Fest/Breakfast with the Bunny

March 27 is Diabetes Awareness Month

March 24 - Madison Growth plan a Diabetes service project

Lake Wisconsin - Eskimo Open the 3rd Saturday of February

Hazel Green - for their 50th Anniversary they are donating $50 a month to worthy causes, the first was to the Rescue Squad, sending 3 Leos to Youth Exchange, helping with the Pasty sale.

Albany - April 15th celebrating 50th Anniversary, ID Connie LeClair - Meyer will be the guest speaker.

Final comments:

WebEx will send a survey after the meeting, you can choose not to complete, looking for feedback.

Zone Chairs - DG team or representative will be bringing all the info to the zone meeting. At the meeting WLF will be giving out tickets for Camp for Kids.
